WMF Converter Pro

If you ever need to convert some WMF (Windows Metafile) or EMF (Enhanced Metafile) files using a Mac into something sensible you can actually use then you can’t go past this neat program.

I purchased this software after picking up a two CD book of clip art at a garage sale for 50c that was produced in 1994 for Windows 95, I wasn’t entirely sure if I would even be able to retrieve the images. I’d never heard of WMF files before and a quick Google search and WMF Converter seemed the obvious option so I trialled it first, then purchased it through the App Store.

The program allows you to render and convert single or multiple WMF and EMF images on your mac, preview them, change colours in vector based files and save either all of them, or selected ones as Mac native images in one of 10 file formats, including vector formats (PDF, EPS) and the raster ones, such as TIFF, JPEG, PNG, BMP, JPEG-2000, Mac ICNs and more. The image resolution setting can also be used when saving in raster image formats.

I’ve converted a fair few images now and have had no issues. It is incredibly simple to use and does exactly what it promises, for me the $20.99 price tag seems a fair price, I was able to convert the files into EPS and edit them in Illustrator with no issues.
